Papers of Moses Waddel, 1793-1836.

Letter copybook (1793-1806), diaries (1822-1836), and an incomplete memoir of Waddel's life. The papers relate primarily to his ministry and teaching in Willington, S.C., and Athens, Ga., and to his activities while president (1819-1829) of Franklin College (later the University of Georgia). Correspondents consist mostly of former students and include James Legaré, Thomas Legaré, John B. Posey, David Wilson, John W. Walker, and W. W. Woodward.

Biographical note: Attorney, John W. Walker was born in Bloomington, Indiana, studied law until 1897, then studied shorthand reporting in Washington, D. C. He came to Tombstone in 1903, was official court reporter in Tombstone while it was the county seat of Cochise County and in 1917 moved to Tucson where he was clerk under U. S.
